December and January are not just a couple of months stuck in the calendar just for hunting. It's a great time to get out and do some fishing. Redfish, sheepshead, and black drum can be found in large numbers around the docks and any other structure with some moving water around it. I'm using a Carolina rig, adjust weight accordingly. For sheepshead about 8 to 10 inches of 15lb to 20lb leader. I like florocarbon but regular mono will work. Attach #2 khale hook and a live shrimp and you are in business! For redfish just beef up your leader a bit. Start with about 18 inches of 30lb. The lighter the main line the longer I like to make my leader. Step up a couple sizes on hook and a live shrimp or a palm sized pinfish and it's on! Find some deep moving water with plenty of barnacles and place your bait right in the middle!! Hope to see ya! Good luck and tight lines.
Something to think about...
When I'm fishing for big redfish around large structure I credit alot of my success to braid. This stuff is awesome. Some people say they don't like it because of it's visibility. If the water is that clear and the fish are that smart simply make your leader a little longer and maybe try splicing your leader on instead of using swivel. Couple all that together with light tackle, powerful drags, and a cooperating piece of bait and you will find yourself dragging out some large fish.
