When I looked at the forecast at the beginning of the week, I knew my patience and skills were going to be put to the test. With a predominantly SE wind at 15-20 mph, I put us a plan together for fishing the northern side of the peninsula for speckled trout and redfish.
High tide in the Orange Beach/Fort Morgan area was around mid day all week, which is ideal for the stretch we were fishing. We took both shrimp and croakers as bait, with shrimp being the bait of choice each day this week. We fished mostly stumps, trees, grass, docks, a lot of the same stuff you would look for if you were bass fishing.
We caught many fish all week with Wednesday being the slowest day, with 6 trout and 2 redfish for 1 person. Our best trip was a 3 person 3 hour trip with 19 speckled trout landed. Fishing should stay fairly consistent over the next few months, speckled trout and redfish inshore, and Spanish and king mackerel near shore.
